Bear Hunting

Black bear hunting is optimal in Newfoundland. We have the highest density of black bears in North America. With excellent habitat and a very low hunting pressure in our management area, our bears have the time and space to grow into large animals. The conditions are perfect for you to get your record-class bear as 100% of our hunters did in 2009. In fact, your license with Lake Douglas Hunting and Fishing allows you to harvest two bears on one license.

You can choose the right hunting time for you. We offer a limited number of baited spring black bear hunts during the months of May and June. Fishing for ouannaniche and trout is available for a minor fee during the spring hunt to those hunters who take their bear early in the hunt or to those who just want to fish as an alternative.

The fall bear hunt starts the second week of September and can be in combination with the moose, woodland caribou, or both. It is common to see black bears around the lodge during the fall hunt, literally right at your doorstep.
